Review of Catherine Jo Morgan as Gallery Artist |
This is for art consultants and gallery owners.
So I thought that art consultants and gallery owners might like this kind of review as well. Why not present both the positive and negative qualities of Catherine Jo Morgan, Artist? In the long run, it does me no good to establish a relationship with a gallery that can't live with my worst points. It will disappoint us all. Best Things about Catherine Jo Morgan, Artist:She uses her empathic imagination to light up the world with possibility. Ideas for new work come very freely. She'll never run short of new ways to make vessel sculptures. Her years of training and work as an artist-blacksmith have taught her craftsmanship. She works with an eye to durability and archival qualities. Her hands love the tools and materials. Best of all, she combines these two aspects in one artist. She's both wild and careful. She combines a wild and fertile imagination with uncompromising care for quality. She can work spontaneously over a long span of time to complete a complex piece. Yet she tests materials and processes thoroughly, with care for archival methods. Perseverance. She has demonstrated the patience to work on artistic challenges over long periods of time. She works with or without encouragement from other people. She has a strong clear vision of what her work can do in the world. She's deeply motivated. Her artmaking is intrinsic to her life. She's honest. She has integrity. She's a pleasure to deal with in any business transaction.
Worst Things about Catherine Jo Morgan, Artist:She loves to experiment. If she can't work with a sense of wonder and discovery, she doesn't want to work at all. She'll never repeat a piece no matter how much it's requested. She may stop making a series of work while it's still selling well, in order to start a new series that's completely different. Deadlines sometimes motivate her to work, but she may freeze, instead. So she's reluctant to commit to shows unless she already has the work made. She doesn't accept commissions. She's not a new MFA graduate still in her twenties. She's sixty years old as of March 6, 2004. So she has about thirty good years of artmaking ahead of her, rather than the sixty-five years a young MFA graduate might have. Is the quality and uniqueness of her work enough to make up for this? Many are called. Few stay the course. She's going ahead and continuing to make the art she most wants to make. So - that's perhaps one of the best things of all. She's staying the course.
