Articles for Artists:

CHANGES A Process for Artistic Development

I've added quite a few new links to this article, and edited it a bit. This is an overview of the process I use for learning and developing as an artist. This approach is applicable to creative work in any medium. It's the basis for my creativity coaching work as well.

NEW Automatic Drawing - a Yoga for Artists

This is a companion to the article on empathic responses. The two processes - automatic drawing, and empathic responses - combine beautifully. Together they make an effortless, foolproof way to facilitate your own artistic development.

NEW Varnishing Paintings - Does it Matter?

This article is written primarily for collectors, but painters will find it of interest too. My interest and experience is with acrylic paints, rather than oils. So that's the emphasis in the article.

NEW Dream Interpretation with Analog Drawing

This is a quick method for dispelling the kind of awful "dream hangover" feeling that can ruin a day.

Photographing 3D Artwork: Sculpture & Crafts

This long article summarizes my learnings over several months, upgrading my photography equipment and improving my skills. It's about taking slides of medium sized sculpture and crafts. Hope it will save other artists some time, energy, and money.

Empathic Responses for Artistic Development

This article appeared first on my weblog, Hand Forged Vessels, because I saw a need for it long before this site was ready. It's easy to criticize artwork, whether one's own or the work of others. Rarely, this helps the artist. Usually the criticism is just one more addition to the pot of boiling thoughts. Empathic responses make a more nourishing meal. It's amazing how they open up new and fertile directions, not only for the artwork in question, but for the artist.

Creativity Coaching Now Available

If you like my articles, you'll probably like personal creativity coaching as well. I work with people doing any creative work, in any medium. The goal is to help you develop naturally, along your own true path.

Note on links in articles:

I've changed my mind about associate status with Amazon.com.

I've been linking book recommendations to the Amazon.com site because I like the customer reviews available there. Often too, you can actually read part of the book right on the site. And Amazon offers free shipping if your order totals at least $25.

This month I signed up as an Amazon.com associate. So when you follow one of my book links and actually buy at Amazon.com, I'll get a 5% credit. That's not a lot, but it helps support this nonprofit part of my site - the articles - as well as my weblog. And it's another way you can support my work. Financial security isn't essential to me, but it does help me work in a more peaceful state of being - which benefits the artwork and thereby - benefits you.

I receive no personal gain from any of the other companies to which links point. The links to suppliers are for your convenience. I gain nothing if you shop there, and lose nothing if you don't.

To go to the Amazon.com site to shop, giving me a credit for whatever you decide to buy, just click on the logo below. It will take you to the book department.

Donations are welcome

This is another way you can support my writing. It's not at all required - just an option. If you'd like to donate, just click on the button below. A secure form will open up and you can choose the amount you'd like to donate. This will be done via PayPal's secure site.
