How to Buy Art

Art is food for the soul.

So it's your soul that can tell you which art to buy. How can you tell what are your soul longs for? Luckily, the knowledge comes right through your body.

When you look at a particular painting, or touch a bowl - does it send a wave of well-being through your body? Do you feel expansive? Out to the very edge of your skin? Waves of ecstasy are a very good sign indeed!

Even a sense of calm well-being is a good sign. I like to hold a bowl that sends a wave of relaxation up my arms. It seems that it's my thumbs that can tell. I like to look at artwork that gives me the feeling that "hey, you can do anything!"

You can see that I'm advising you to release any worries about art as a financial investment, or concerns about what a professional decorator might say. It's just a matter of priorities. Art can be a fine investment, and a beautiful room can be wonderful too. These are good. It's just that your soul's well-being is more important. Human beings need art that gives psychic energy.

Releasing artwork that no longer feeds you

Of course this means that sometimes you'll be through with a particular artwork. You no longer need those colors or shapes; the zing is gone. It's time to send the artwork on to someone who needs it.

Please don't just move the artwork to the attic. It's kinder to help it move to someone who needs it now. Give it to a friend who loves it, or offer it for sale on eBay or at a local gallery. Somewhere in the world, someone's soul hungers for it.

Other people hunger for what only you can do.

That reminds me. Other people's souls are hungry for your unique contribution to the world. Maybe it's not visual art; it's music or science or workshops, or well-repaired washing machines. Whatever it is, I beg you: do it. We need what only you can do.

Find the art that empowers you to do it.
