Maple Leaf Pictures:
The maple leaf pictures in
this painting are a mix of red maple and
mountain maple leaves. I used real maple
leaves to make these leaf pictures. I
gathered the leaves this spring, in some
happy hunting days.
Some of the maple leaf pictures are leaf
prints, showing the veins. You can see how
I've also used the leaves as stencils,
painting a halo around a leaf. In a few
places I used a leaf in a kind of "reverse
print" - lifting off paint to show the leaf
form. I guess you
can tell I love maple leaves! One of my
favorite memories is of a row of maple trees
on a street near downtown where I grew up,
in Champaign, Illinois. Each maple was a
different variety.
As a child I found it exhilarating to get
to know each by name. I grew up with the big
trees of the Midwest. There most land is
planted in corn and soybeans, so shade
around houses is valuable and every tree is
cherished.
Displaying maple leaf
pictures:
"Finding a Way Through" is
ready to hang, or you may frame it. Here's
how it might look framed:

It fits a standard 8x10"
frame for canvas paintings. Or you may want
to use a frame with a liner, which will make
the painting larger.
This size painting works well displayed
on a small easel on a desk or table top as
well as hung on a wall. It's also just the
right size for those narrow vertical wall
areas. And of course you can hang a group of
them to fill a much larger space.

THIS PAINTING WILL LAST:
I use the finest art materials and archival
techniques available so your purchase will last for generations. Each
painting is varnished with 3 or more coats of a removable varnish over an
isolation coat. This means that the painting can be wiped clean as needed.
And decades from now, the varnish can be removed and redone if necessary,
without harm to the painting itself.
FRAMING IS OPTIONAL:
This painting is on fine stretched cotton duck canvas, gallery
wrapped. That means it's stapled only on the back, with all sides fully
painted to coordinate with the front. It is ready to hang.
I ship the painting unframed to save you shipping
costs. Then you can choose the frame you like, or hang the painting
unframed. The canvas is a standard size, so you can easily find a frame
for it to suit your style. Most people just hang the painting right away,
unframed.

Painting even better than photo." ABOUT CATHERINE JO MORGAN:

I draw, paint and make vessel
sculptures in my studio in the woods of northeast Georgia, in the foothills
of the Smoky Mountains. I live in a rustic cabin I built with my partner in
1982. After an earlier career as a psychologist, I became a fulltime
artist-blacksmith in 1985. Since 1990, I've specialized in iron and mixed
media vessel sculptures. My drawings and paintings are usually studies for
these sculptures. I draw my inspiration from walks in the woods, especially
hikes into wilderness areas.
My work is in private collections across the United
States. I've participated in invitational shows, including a show of iron
bowls at Georgia Southern University in 1996. I've also taught blacksmithing
and metal sculpture. In 1990 I was a featured demonstrator at the national
blacksmithing conference in Alfred, New York. My bowls are also featured in
Dona Meilach's book, Contemporary Ironwork.
