Acrylic Painting Materials & Methods

Gallery Wrapped Canvas

I use stretched canvas primed to be archival. The canvas is stapled to the wooden stretchers only in the back. I paint all four sides. This means the painting is ready to hang without any frame, if desired. Or you can add a frame to match your taste and environment.

Archival Materials & Methods

I use archival materials and methods. With a 25-year background in fine crafts (as an artist-blacksmith) I have a steadfast concern for quality and durability. I want my artwork to last.

Golden Acrylic Paints

Almost all the paints I use are Golden acrylics. These are professional acrylic paints of highest quality. Occasionally I'll use the professional grades of other fine brands like Windsor-Newton or Liquitex, to get a certain pigment I need. For varnish, I use Krylon Kamar, or the new spray Golden MSA Varnish to add UV-resistance. Both are high quality varnishes for paintings.

Pictures of leaves

The pictures of tree leaves in my paintings are usually made by printing with real leaves. These may be maple leaves, oak tree leaves, dogwood tree leaves and more. These trees are "sister trees" here in the Cherokee Nation bioregion. I pick the leaves here in the woods around the studio.

Collages

I may turn the painting into a collage by adding other materials. When I add printed materials, I make them archival by spraying them with a deacidifying spray or by printing them on my Epson C-82 printer on archival paper.  Prints from this printer on the papers I use - Epson Matte Heavyweight, for example - have been tested for longevity. Kept out of direct sunlight and in heat and humidity controlled room, they should last 72 years or more without perceptibly fading. The acrylic mediums and varnishes I use provide additional protection.

Certificate of Authenticity

Each painting is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
