The Chi Energy™ Bags are protected with Scotchgard® when I make them. So
they can repel most dirt and spills. This gives you a good start in caring
for them.
Each bag is soft paper on the outside, but lined with cloth on the inside.
Aluminum eyelets protect the holes from tearing as the cord slides through.
So the Chi Energy™ Bags are strong and well protected from the start.
Medicine Bags - Cleaning
Using a miniature vacuum cleaner
I've had good success cleaning the Chi Energy™ Bags with a tiny vacuum
cleaner powered with AA batteries. You may be able to find the Enervac mini-vac
I bought years ago at Radio Shack. All I could find online recently is a
positive
review of it.
Since then, Radio Shack has replaced it with another model, the
Dirt Devil® Detailer. It's similar and should work well. Just be gentle.
Washing a Chi Energy™ Bag
 You
can hand wash a Chi Energy™ Bag as long as you're gentle. You'll probably
need to remove the cord, iron it flat, and then restring the cord and refold
it to stand up or lie flat as a pendant, as you prefer. When making the Chi
Energy™ bags, I've always used an ironing cloth. Of course because of the
acrylic paint and other delicate materials used, you'll need a low heat.
If you decide to renew the Scotchgard® protection after washing your Chi
Energy™ Bag, be sure to use plenty of ventilation. Don't breathe the fumes.
Wear protective gloves while spraying. You can spray the bag flat, then hang
it to dry. You might want to read the
MSDS for Scotchgard® before deciding whether or not to use it.
Replacing Soiled or Frayed Cord
 If
you need to replace the cord that draws your Chi Energy Bag into its shape,
you can probably find an appropriate replacement at a local craft store.
Feel free to ask me to send you a replacement too. The cost will be quite
reasonable.
Renewing Chi Energy
Paper usually holds Chi energy for about a year at a time. You can easily
renew the Chi energy in your bag by giving it a simple blessing and asking
that the energy be renewed. It’s that simple. Whatever your spiritual
tradition and path, you can use or create an appropriate ritual for blessing
and renewal.
Displaying Your Chi Energy™ Bag
Many people tuck their Chi Energy™ Bag into a dresser drawer or bedside
drawer. Folded flat, the best place could be your jewelry box.
Carrying the Chi Energy™ Bag With You
Of course the original idea of a medicine bag was to have a way to keep your
personal amulets and talismans - symbols of personal and spiritual power -
with you all the time.
Many of the Chi Energy™ Bags are small and soft enough to tuck into your
pants pocket. You can also wear your bag as a pendant on your chest, or
suspended from a belt.
A personal or home altar
A Chi Energy™ Bag is a perfect addition to a personal or home altar. Its
small size and beautiful colors can complement just about any altar
arrangement you have. And of course you can put into the bag whatever
symbols you wish: slips of paper, small charms, objects from nature, and
more.

Sizes of Chi Energy™ Bags:
The 4-fold and 5-fold bags spread out the most when free standing. They're about
3 to 4" high, 5" in diameter. You can vary the size by the way you fold them.
The 4-fold bags fold flat into triangular or heart shaped pendants, as well.
The 6-fold through 12-fold bags are about 3" in diameter, 3 to 3.5" high.
