Privacy Policy

All information you choose to provide to me will be kept confidential and private. No personally identifying information will be shared with anyone else or with any service. If you have signed up for my newsletter or for an account here, you will be able to cancel either one with a simple “unsubscribe” for the newsletter, or cancel your account here by emailing me to cancel it and delete your personal information.

Book Recommendations

I signed up as an Amazon Books affiliate mainly to be able to include photos of book covers in my articles. If you click on one of the photos it will direct you to Amazon.com in another browser tab. If you buy that book and/or continue to shop at Amazon, I will get a few cents of affiliate reward. Note that this means Amazon will do its own tracking. The same is true, as far as I know, of any other book retailer. I won’t be tracking you, but sites you visit AFTER visiting the Heartpainter site probably will be.

Cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of data stored on your computer by your web browser, while browsing a website. You can erase them from your browser at any time, via your browser’s security settings. Some cookies are set for the user’s convenience, to keep items in the site shopping cart while you look at another page.

Cookies for Your Convenience

Cookies are small pieces of data stored on your computer by your web browser, while browsing a website. You can erase them from your browser at any time, via your browser’s security settings. However, this can add inconvenience if you want to revisit a site. (For probably more than you want to know about cookies, see Wikipedia’s article on the HTTP cookie.)

Ad cookies are set in many sites by Google or Microsoft, so they can show you ads across the internet — from me or from dozens of others. (Nonprofit organizations do this too, as I’m sure you’ve noticed.) Even though the ad trackers don’t know your name and address, they can follow you around the internet.

No thanks! I don’t like this, so I don’t inflict it on you either.

Squarespace Functional and Convenience cookies

These make the Heartpainter site more convenient for you to use:

  • One cookie prevents redirect loops that can interfere with your browsing the site.

  • One cookie prevents the announcement bar at the top of each page to stop showing after you close it on one page.

  • One cookie keeps a popup (which I usually avoid anyway) from reappearing after you close it.

  • One cookie keeps your “like” after you click “like” on a blog post.

Shopping cart cookies that remain on your browser for 2 weeks:

  • One cookie tells the site to use the correct shopping cart.

  • One cookie preserves your shopping cart even if you close the site and/or choose to pay via PayPal rather than Stripe.

Other Squarespace cookies:

  • One cookie enables you to create an account as you check out, to make future checkouts more convenient. (You can always check out without creating a Heartpainter account.) This cookie lasts 3 years.

  • One cookie enables you, if you pay with Stripe, to choose to save your credit card for future checkouts. When viewing a saved credit card, only the last four digits of the card will be visible. (Of course you need not choose to save your credit card here.)

Squarespace cookie that may be of use if I ever offer a group or workshop:

  • If I you sign up for a scheduled session like a coaching session, class, or workshop here for a certain date and time, a cookie will keep the time set to your time zone, keep you logged in, and keep you from having to repeatedly enter information. This cookie remains for 365 days.

Website Analytics Cookies

These cookies help me keep improving the heartpainter website. They keep no personally identifying information — only the ip address you use to view this site.

How does this work?

  • I can tell which sites are referring viewers, so I can focus my publicity efforts where they show the most promise. (This helps me spend more time painting.

  • I can tell how many visitors view the site, so I can tell if I need to do more to reach out further into the world.

  • I can tell which pages interest viewers most.

Other Cookies Here

  • I currently use MailChimp to send out the occasional newsletter to viewers who sign up for it here. Mailchimp has its own first-party cookies that enable it to function correctly. MailChimp also uses third-party cookies for its forms, analytics, and more. You can learn more about MailChimp cookies on its website.

  • I may add some more functionality to the site by enabling you to rate a painting or a piece of writing here, using a third-party plugin. That will set its own cookies. If I do this, I’ll revise this page accordingly.

The heartpainter studio and office are located on Creek/Mvskoke, Yuchi/Tsoyaha, and Cherokeee/Aniyunwiya/Tsalagi land.
